For this task, you will need a camera besides just your phone, unfortunately. For these shots you need to have a high shutter speed, which is how long the sensor is open for light to hit it in your camera. You also may need some help to get this shot, as you need someone to spin the tennis ball while you snap the photo.
Essentially for the best shot, you want a nice sunny day so that you can have your shutter speed as high as possible: I had mine set to 1/4000 when I took these pictures. Once you have your shutter speed set up, make sure you have your exposure set correctly, and also make sure that you have it set to continuous shooting so you can capture as many pictures as possible in a short amount of time because this will be very quick!
Then when you have all your settings set up, soak the tennis ball in water and find someone that isn’t afraid to get a little wet. Your assistant will spin the tennis ball fiercely in a horizontal or vertical fashion as you snap the shot. You will capture the tennis ball spinning with all the water particles in a beautiful spiral shape; it’ll kinda look like the galaxy!
You could try to do this with your phone if you can capture it fast enough, it will be a lot harder though. No matter what, have fun with it, go outside and try this cool new idea. Don’t bring your dog though, he/she might try to steal the ball from you!
3D Designing
3D Designing
Digital design makes it easy to quickly apply a host of changes to each iteration, which usually involves only a click, selection, or toggle. The improved visualization offered through 3D modeling allows the user to preview these changes from all perspectives, making it easy to verify physical changes, functional changes, and sharpen aesthetics. While traditional designs are cumbersome and take longer to make, 3D modeling allows the production of newer versions in under 15 minutes. The exceptional user-friendliness of leading 3D design platforms reduces the software learning curve, keeping teams agile, and reducing training time.
Unparalleled Detail and Accuracy
3D models let teams construct any shape imaginable while retaining production capability and help visions come together with relative ease. Modern 3D modeling provides a level of design depth that rough sketches or 2D designs cannot, such as improved control over details. It also lets engineers explore the physical aspects of a design without surrendering to physical limitations.
On the collaboration side, meticulous details make it easier to convey the specifics behind a given design. Design teams are no longer in silos. They can easily communicate with other teams and stakeholders. Going to bat for a design necessitates that all crucial elements can be present in the schematic. 3D models let teams inject more detail, thus helping everyone stay on the same page.
Photo manipulation
Photo manipulation
In this day and age, photo editing is ubiquitous across digital assets. Almost every photo you see online is now retouched with some kind of filter, preset or photo editing software. But beyond the typical edit here and there, photo editing has evolved into something much more exciting – a trend called photo manipulation. Combining the technical aspects of photo editing with the creativity of digital art, photo manipulation is one of the most creative and innovative art forms to come out of the digital age, producing an array of weird, wacky and wonderful results.
Referred to as ‘modern surrealism’, photo manipulation often involves blending photos, graphics and other visual elements together to create bizarre, out-of-this world artworks and effects. Just as with surrealist art, photo manipulation is all about creating unexpected visual juxtapositions to surprise the viewer and pull them into a world of the artist’s making. Opening up endless creative possibilities for digital artists, photo manipulation has become a huge trend online – particularly on social media. Digital artists such as Jose Francese, Emilio Rios and Aron Visuals have all made a big impact on Instagram with their incredible photo manipulations – featuring everything from cosmic scenescapes, to rollercoasters in space, to other-worldly creatures in mystical settings. While their individual styles vary greatly, they all use photo manipulations for the same purpose – to give followers a glimpse into their imaginations and bring their wildest dreams to life.
While there are many ways to create this surreal form of digital art, most artists use Adobe Photoshop for photo manipulations, due to its wide range of tools and effects. When working on a photo manipulation in Photoshop, you’ll also need different types of creative assets at your disposal, such as photos, graphics, 3D objects and add ons. “The program I use most for photo manipulation is Photoshop,” explains digital artist Jose Francese. “I think that to this day, it is still the best program for photo editing. It allows you to do anything you can imagine, with so many tools at your disposal.” He continues, “PNG files, 3D objects and photos are necessary tools for me and anyone who is dedicated to photo manipulation. Envato Elements is one of the best places to obtain high quality resources – it has everything I need to bring my ideas to life.”
Pencil Drawing
Pencil Drawing
When you’re starting out as an artist, drawing a face is likely one of the skills you’re looking to master. There are plenty of options for how to do this, from cartoon and graphic novel styles to realistic portrait styles used to draw your favorite celebrities or your family and friends. By following this guide, you’ll learn how to draw a face step by step from both a front and sideways (known as a profile) perspective. We’ll help you go from beginner to accomplished artist in no time!
Step 1: Outline the Face
Begin your drawing by deciding how much of your paper you’d like the face to take up. Using a ruler, draw a horizontal line at the top and bottom of your paper with two vertical lines around an inch from either side. In the middle, draw another horizontal line. This will form a square in the middle of your paper with the three horizontal and vertical lines extending beyond it.

As artists, we are often admonished not to copy but to be original. My response to that? Phooey.
First, the idea of being original is highly overrated in my humble opinion. And second, why not use that passion you feel for Michelangelo or Matisse?
I've written in this blog before about copying or using the Old Masters as inspiration. But a good idea bears repeating, doesn't it?
So here are a couple of ideas to get you started. Borrow color from someone you love. Take Picasso's Blue Period, for instance. Can you create an entire series with just one color? Give it a try and tell me it doesn't stretch your creative muscles.
How about a master class in painting from one of the greats? All you have to do is take a painting you love and copy it stroke for stroke. Do you love Vincent's "Sunflowers"? Great, make a faithful copy of it. You will learn more by doing that than any painting class you will ever attend.
Read Vasari's "Lives of the Artists" at least once for inspiration. The dedication to Cosimo De Medici is worth the read all by itself. You can get a copy for ninety-nine cents on Kindle. Then read Robert Hughes' "The Shock of the New" to balance out Vasari. Top it off with Jed Perl's "New Art City" or anything by him. I've got "Magicians and Charlatans" next on my reading list. I find reading about the artists and their work just as inspiring as looking at the actual work.
Finally, take a look at one my older blog posts about Abstracting from the Old Masters. Not everyone wants to copy Rembrandt line by line, but maybe you will be inspired by a shape or a color from one of his paintings. Or take another artist you love. It doesn’t have to be an old master. Modern master Kehinde Wiley, mid-century master Grace Hartigan, 19th century Japanese master, Hiroshige, Byzantine master Cimabue - they’re all there just waiting for you to copy, copy, copy.
